October Festivals

October 6- 12 Ibalong Festival A colorful celebration of Albay’s historic evolution. Parades, street dancing and cultural shows are the highlights of the festivity.

October 22- 24 Catandugan Held in Catanduanes, this festival commemorates the founding of the province. The festivity showcases cultural shows and parades.

2nd Week
Zamboanga Hermosa– held in Zamboanga City, this week-long feast is honoring the city’s patron saint- Nuestra Senora del Pilar. Processions, ethnic shows and parades are the highlights.

4th Week
Masskara Festival– this festival resembles to that of Ati-Atihan with lively parade of people wearing masks out of papier mache to show their appreciation for life.

4th Week
Lanzones Festival– celebrated in Mambajao Camiguin, people dressed in Lanzones leaves are paraded around town to pay tribute to their most important crop, the Lanzones fruit.

Last week Fiestang Kuliat Held in balibago, Angeles City, this festival highlights the colorful street dancing.

July Festivals

First week
Sagayan Festival– held in Tubod lanao Del Norte, women in colorful native costumes are paraded all over town.

July 4-7 Pagoda Festival– held in Bocaue, Bulacan- a town just outside Metro Manila. A river parade of decorated barge called Pagoda, and small boats is held to honor the holy cross found in Wawa river. To get there, drive along the north expressway, and exit at Sta. Maria or Bocaue. At the toll, turn left.

Fourth week
Sandugo Festival-A festival in Bohol commemorating the blood compact between Legaspi- a Spanish leader and Sikatuna- a Filipino tribal head during the Spanich occupation. A reenactment is held. Trade fairs and colorful parades are the highlights of the celebration.

Fourth Week
Sinulog De Tanjay Festival– celebrated by the townsfolk of Tanjay, Negros Oriental, this week long fiesta features the tradition of Sinulog. People in their colorful native costumes are paraded around town with shows of horse fights reenacting the battle between Filipinos and Spanish.

Fourth Week
Kahimonan Abayan Festival The fest is held in Butuan City in tribute to St. Anne or Sta. Ana whom known to be their guide against the man-eating crocodiles along Agusan River. They celebrate praying on boats for good luck and safety while crossing the river.

December Festivals

December 5-11, Pagayaya Festival Ilagan, Isabela

Five provinces of Isabela region gathers up for 1 week long showcase of their culture, crafts and cuisine.

December 8, Gua Gua Town Fiesta Gua Gua, Pampanga

In honor of Immaculate concepcion, Pampanga celebrates this day showcasing cultural performances and festivities around town.

December 8, Sinadya Sa Halaran Festival Roxas City, Capiz

In the province of Capiz, this festival held annually, commemorates the feast of Immaculate concepcion- Patroness
of Roxas city. Rituals and festivities are performed the traditional Capizeno way.

December 8, Pagdiwata Festival Palawan

It is a thanksgiving celebration of the Tagbanua tribe as thanksgiving for bountiful harvest. Night-long singing and dancing comprise the whole festivity with the lively traditional music in the background.

December 10, Children’s Festival Lucena City

Children wearing mascots are paraded around town of Lucena. Attractive programs and children games are held after the parade.

Third week, Shariff Kabunsuan Festival Cotabato City

This celebration commemorates the one who brought the islamic faith to Mindanao named Shariff Kabunsuan.

December 24, San Fernando Giant Lantern Festival San Fernando, Pampanga

The highlight of this festival is the presentation of the giant Christmas lanterns made by participating communities. Giant multi-colored lanterns are paraded to the delight of the visitors.

December 25 Christmas Day

The whole country celebrates the birth of Christ with midnight mass held on December 24, followed by the midnight supper or noche buena. Christmas day or Decmber 25 is the gathering of families and gift giving.

September 1-8 Sarakiki Festival
A cockfighting festival in Calbayog City, Samar

1st Week
Kaamulan-(meaning festival) is celebrated in Malaybalay, Bukidnon with abundance of cultural shows featuring their folksongs and native dances.

2nd week
Maradjao-Karadjao Festival– Surigao City’s famous festival of their ancient ritual dances.

3rd Saturday of September

“Our Lady of Penafrancia Procession” Naga City- People from all over the country flock this town to participate a week long festival in honor of the town’s religious icon. The highlight is the loading of the virgin of Penafrancia onto a gaily decorated barge and carefully paraded along the Naga River.

3rd week
T’boli Festival In Lake Sebu, South Cotabato, natives believe that there is a golden era locally called Lem-lunay. The festival is an inspiration to work hard for them to achieve the golden years.

November Fiestas

November 1 All Saint’s Day A nationwide holiday honoring the dead. The celebration is held with gatherings of parties and a whole day feasting in the cemetery.

November 5- 13 Kansilay Festival A festival named after a tree with purple pink flower and at the same time commemorating the peaceful revolution in Silay called ‘cinco de Noviembre”

November 13, Reviving “Sarswela” Negros Occidental- This town’s fiesta recently revived its traditional sarswela, a musical comedy featuring customs of farmers & urban folks, into a more colorful presentation where most barangays present their own interpretations, in a competition as a part of their feast for St. Didacus.

2nd week Helubong Festival A colorful and truly traditional festival celebrated by two ethnic groups, T’boli and B’Laan held in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato.

November 23 Feast of San Clemente Angono, Rizal- Its town fiesta honoring their patron saint where its images are brought down the river. One highlight is a fair of huge papier-mache effigies in traditional attires.

Last Week Grand Cordillera Festival Festival of the Cordillera regions’s traditional dances, music, arts and crafts, to introduce the tribes’ ancient traditions. These shows are mostly held in Baguio City’s Burham Park.

November 30 Bonifacio Day A nationwide holiday commemorating the heroic deeds of Andres bonifacio, the hero of first Philippine revolution during the Spanish regime.

Whole Month of May Flores De Mayo All over the country- A floral procesion offered to Virgin Mary when the flowers are in best bloom. The month-long celebration also features Santacrusan in honor of Sta. helena of constantinople- a procession held in most towns where the most beautiful girls are chosen and dressed up in majestic outfits.

May 1-31: Magayon Festival Albay- A celebration honoring the existence of Mt. Mayon as inspired by the province’s legendary Daragang Magayon (beautiful maiden. The festival likewise showcases rich culture, arts and history of Albay.

May 6-9: Rodeo Pilipino Festival Masbate- A festival that honors cattle raising in Masbate.

May 14- 15: Carabao Festival Angono, Rizal- It’s a feast honoring their saint San Isidro, who used his oxen to plow his field. Carabaos similarly of the same use, are paraded around town well decorated and even shaved in assorted patterns.

May 15: Pahiyas Festival Lucban, Queson- This festival is honoring San Isidro Labrador for a bountiful harvest through out the year. Residents make effort on decorating their houses with kiping leaves- rice flour paste pressed unto leaf and dried, along with coconuts, rice grains, vegetables, breads, fruits and anything related to the family’s source of living. The colorful display of these ornaments makes the whole town inexpressibly beautiful.

3rd Sunday Tabanog Festival Cagayan de Oro City- A kite flying festival that features expos and competitions.

May 17- 19: Kasilonawan Festival Obando, Bulacan- A fertility rite for childless couples asking Sta. Clara to bless them with children. They gather around the image every year praying and dancing.
